Joyce Raley Teel Scholarship
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Joyce Raley Teel Scholarship program, honoring top achievement among remarkable students. To date, the Joyce Raley Teel Scholarship program has awarded over $238,000 in scholarship funds to deserving students - Raley's colleagues and family members. This year's Grand Prize Winner is Christy Woldridge of Sacramento, receiving a $5,000 scholarship. Christy works in the Financial Services Department.
Race For The Cure
Over 1,000 Raley's, Bel Air and Food Source colleagues, friends and family donned their signature yellow team shirts to join the Joyce Raley Teel team at the 12th annual Race for the Cure. Since its inaugural year in Sacramento in 1997, Raley's Family of Fine Stores has been a major sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Raley's was once again the largest corporate team to participate in the event. Joyce Raley Teel served as the honorary chair of the event and awarded the annual 'Joyce Raley Teel Award' to Donna Sanderson, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Sacramento Valley Chapter.

Free Wellness Programs for People with Diabetes
To best serve customers and employees living with diabetes, Raley's Corporate Dietitian Earline Griffith, R.D. started classes and Raley's supermarket tours specific to the needs of people with diabetes. Diabetes affects 21 million people in the U.S. and about 7-10 percent of the population in California alone.

Given these statistics, Raley's decided to take a proactive role in helping shoppers make better, more healthful lifestyle choices - in and out of the grocery aisle. "With so many nutritious offerings in our Natural Foods and Fresh Produce departments, we want to provide customers fighting diabetes with resources and realistic meal solutions, so that achieving a healthy lifestyle is convenient for our customers," said Griffith.

Earline's classes either cover eating, shopping or cooking with diabetes, giving customers well-rounded resources and healthy lifestyle information specific to their lifestyles and dietary needs. To learn more about these classes and to register, customers are encouraged to visit our website.

Cesar Chavez Day of Volunteerism
Together with Maloof Sports & Entertainment, the Sacramento Kings & Monarchs, Wells Fargo and Comcast, Raley's helped refurbish The Center for Fathers and Families' newly-acquired facility in a single day for the fifth annual day of volunteerism to celebrate the legacy of Cesar Chavez.

Founded in 1994, The Center for Fathers and Families (CFF) can expand its services with the newly-acquired facility in Sacramento. It is a non-profit agency dedicated to responding to the needs of fathers and their families by offering programs and services that lead to family growth, enrichment and empowerment.

Raley's and Bel Air donated two toddler play areas complete with a Raley's Kids Kitchen and Bel Air Book Bungalow to promote healthy lifestyles and early childhood literacy in the community served by The CFF. The final product was unveiled to the children of The CFF in the afternoon during a special celebration attended by the Sacramento Kings team.

"At Raley's, the family unit is the foundation of our company's culture," said Bill Coyne, President and CEO. "We are extremely pleased to participate in the Cesar Chavez Day of Volunteerism to benefit the very deserving recipient, The Center for Fathers and Families. We share their passion for protecting and preserving the family, and are delighted to contribute resources to encourage healthy lifestyles and foster family interaction."

Test For Life Campaign
Each year in the United States alone, more than 52,000 people die of colorectal cancer - nearly the same as those who die of breast cancer and HIV combined. A disease that attacks men and women in equal numbers, it has the third-highest mortality rate of all cancer-related deaths.

Raley's & Bel Air Pharmacies partnered with the Sacramento CBS affiliate CBS13/CW31 to provide free colorectal cancer screening kits to customers throughout the greater Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto regions throughout the month of March Ð Colon Cancer Awareness month. Over 40,000 free tests were distributed during this life-saving campaign.

"By providing these tests at no cost, we hope to increase awareness of colon cancer among our customers in the many communities our stores serve," said Flint Pendergraft, Vice President of Pharmacy and Healthy Lifestyle Initiatives.

Cristo Rey Work Study Program
Raley's has become a sponsor of the Cristo Rey Work Study Program, offering students from a local high school experience in professional, entry-level clerical positions at the Raley's Main Offices in West Sacramento, Calif. When students fulfill the Cristo Rey graduation requirements, they also fulfill the subject requirements for admission to the University of California and the California State University systems.

Giving the students the greatest range of work experience exposes them to many different facets of the company. Students have worked in departments such as Human Resources, Financial Services and Communications. Raley's is proud to further the future of area youth by providing a positive working experience and helping to build the self-confidence of the next generation's workforce.

Raley's Helps Donate Three K-9 Officers
Raley's partnered with Milk-Bone to donate $5,000 to the Modesto Police Department for the purchase of a new K-9 Officer. With the success of this annual program, two other vendors - Iams and Purina - got involved and signed on to donate to local Sheriff's Departments!

To show support of local law enforcement, donation checks were awarded to the Modesto Police Department, the Placer County Sheriff's Department and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department.

Raley's Offers Relief In Destructive Lake Tahoe Fire
"Thanks to the tremendous generosity of our customers and colleagues," said Bill Coyne, Raley's President and CEO, "we are very pleased to contribute $332,463 to the outstanding efforts of the American Red Cross, which continues to play an integral and essential role in the Lake Tahoe fire relief work."

"Raley's donation is significant for the American Red Cross, Sacramento Sierra Chapter because it will allow us to develop a long term recovery program that includes community preparedness, education and training and ongoing relief in the Tahoe area," said Red Cross CEO Julie Van Dooren.

Food For Families
Food For Families is a non-profit program that has raised more than $17 million and donated more than 7 million pounds of dry groceries to food banks in our communities since the program began as a holiday food drive in 1986. Food For Families works in partnership with Raley's customers, employees and vendors. The Sacramento Bee, the Modesto Bee and the San Francisco Chronicle make donations to Food For Families based on the sale of newspapers in our stores to help stock food banks throughout Northern California and Nevada.
