First off, I'd gently remind that you can save 10% when you buy six bottles.
4 bottles for the holiday and 2 for yourself when you're chillaxing after the holidays.
I'm not sayin'.
I'm just sayin'.
Now about that holiday meal:
Celebrating Christmas? Use the same rule of thumb I gave you for Thanksgiving - a red and a white.
If you're having ham, choose a Pinot or Merlot (there are some great ones on sale this month). Having prime rib? Go Cab all the way.
My $10 a bottle picks:
Trinchero Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and Estancia Chardonnay
My $15 a bottle picks:
BV Napa Cab and Buena Vista Carneros Chardonnay
My best buy pick:
La Crema Chardonnay - $10 off the regular price
A really hot price - it's about $15. Seriously, buy a few bottles for yourself while it's on sale!
My "impress-the-in-laws-picks" - more expensive wines with great discounts:
Mount Veeder Cab - a big splurge, but if it's in your budget, at least treat yourself to this one and save it for a special occasion. I heart you, Mount Veeder Cab. Yes, I do.
Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages - the biggest splurge, but about $10 off the regular price
Celebrating Chanukah? Check out the Baron Herzog Chardonnay and Cabernet - a pair of easy-drinking kosher wines.
Celebrating Kwanzaa? Try a rich Chardonnay like Edna Valey to match African peanut soups or sweet potato dishes, and also have a hearty red on hand, like a Shiraz or Zin.
Have a great holiday!
