10 Chili Cookoff Tips
  1. Find impartial judges.
Not the people on your cookoff teams. Trust us on this one!

  2. Beer is great for chili.
When we tried our own chili cookoff, one team used a chocolatey stout to intensify the flavor of the molé they used in their chili recipe.

  3. Get creative.
Molé sauce, Portuguese sausage, cream cheese - just a taste of what we saw in our competitor's chilis.

  4. Chili purists will swear that "real" chili doesn't have beans.

  5. Everything's better with cornbread.

  6. Custom logos are cool.
You can make your own shirts and labels on the computer.

  7. Pre-cuts are a good thing.
You'll get tired of chopping. We're partial to Raley's Pre-Cut Bell Peppers, Onions and Pico de Gallo.

  8. Chili takes time.
Seriously. Bring something to do - or a beer to drink - while it's cooking.

  9. Don't underestimate the competitive spirit of your friends and loved ones.
It can get ugly. We know first-hand.

  10. Corn chips are great for checking the competition's chili.
