I love peanut butter; it’s one of natures—healthier food choices especially when paired with a sweet crispy sliced apple. They go so nicely together. Also, I love peanut butter with dark chocolate Yum-m-m!
Daily, I repeat my Peanut Butter mantra: 2 Tablespoons -- Not the Whole Jar
Recent studies show that nuts are good for your heart, and your figure! What makes peanut butter a healthy choice? It provides:
- Low glycemic carbohydrates for an energy boost
- Some long-lasting satisfaction and full-feeling from protein and fat
- Essential nutrients: Vitamin E, fiber, niacin, phosphorus, and magnesium
Several people have asked me if they needed to store their peanut butter that they freshly ground (on their own) in our natural foods department in the refrigerator? Well, it depends. If you plan on keeping the peanut butter for a while you might want to refrigerate it. For two reasons:
- The oil will become more solid and not separate as easily
- Peanut oil is prone to oxidize easily because it is unsaturated and refrigerating it will prevent (or reduce) oxidation
The 2-cup container from the natural foods department typically last less than a month in my house. I leave it out so it stays soft and its easier to spread.
