In January 2008, the Raley's store in Lincoln, Calif. installed solar panels on the rooftop. The 1,576-panel solar power system saves approximately 300,000 kilowatts of power per year - which translates to approximately 20 percent of the store's average annual power usage.
"This is an exciting win-win project as it provides significant energy savings, reduces our environmental impact and it helps lower our cost of doing business all of which benefits our customers," said Ed Estberg, Raley's senior director of facilities.
Customers at the Lincoln store can view the store's energy use and savings information in real time from a monitor installed near the store's entrance.
