NickelAid: Use Reusable Shopping Bags and Make a Difference in Your Community!

When you use your reusable bags at Raley’s, Bel Air, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source, you play a huge role in helping us reduce the amount of paper and plastic bags and lessen our impact on the environment. And, because we think one good deed deserves another, our reusable bag program — NickelAid — offers a charitable donation on your behalf of 5-cents per bag, up to $100,000 annually.

This year, we asked our customers to help us select our NickelAid beneficiary for 2012-13 and we’re pleased to announce that the American Heart Association and the Nevada State Parks Foundations were selected as our winning charities.

How does NickelAid work? You can bring in any type of bag: reusable bags, paper bags or plastic bags — whatever you have handy! Check the bottom of your receipt to see that you've helped donate.

As a proud partner, Raley’s absorbs all administrative fees to ensure that all of the money raised in our California stores will be used to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke by supporting the American Heart Association and in our Nevada stores to help preserve, repair and maintain Nevada State Parks.

Our stores have been serving local families for more than 75 years, and we’re proud to do our part to support our Northern California and Nevada communities.

Raley’s NickelAid Campaign: Progress to Date
In 2011-12, funds raised through NickelAid helped to remove the Governor’s Mansion from the California State Parks closure. And in Nevada, NickelAid funds will help build a new trailhead at Lahontan State Recreational Area and purchase new picnic tables at Sand Harbor State Park.

In light of the fact that the California Park System has been found to be hiding some $54,000,000, will the 'donations', via reuse of our grocery bags, still be given to the parks?   Comment Number: 5305

Unicorn1950 - Unfortunately, in light of the ongoing investigations into fiscal irregularities at the California Department of State Parks, the California State Parks Foundation is no longer an eligible partner for this community giving program. As a result, we have chosen to partner in California with the runner-up in our voting process, which was the American Heart Association.   Comment Number: 5326
