Program has awarded over $280,000 to Raley's employees and family members

On Wednesday, May 26, Raley's employees, family members and community leaders gathered to honor the tremendous achievements of ten scholars – the finalists for this year's Joyce Raley Teel Scholarship program.

2010 marks the 12th year of the Joyce Raley Teel Scholarship Program, which has given a total of $288,000 to employees and eligible dependents.

Congratulations to the top three winners:

$5,000 award recipient – Alexandra Hartline of Fair Oaks – Following her graduation from the University of California, Davis, in June 2011, with an undergraduate degree in History and Art History, Alexandra plans on enrolling in a Master’s in Library and Information Science program and subsequently embark on a career as a librarian. In addition to her work as a Clerk at the Raley's in Fair Oaks, Alexandra also balances her studies with a tutoring program she's involved with.

$4,000 award recipient – Staci Smith of Oroville – Serving a tour in Iraq in February 2006, Staci experienced a tragic accident that resulted in two reconstructive surgeries on her jaw. Inspired by the treatment and care of the doctor who came to her aid, Staci decided to venture on the path of becoming an oral surgeon. Staci was sponsored by her mother, Dianna Bowers Smith, who is a Clerk at the Raley’s in Oroville.

$3,000 award recipient – Samantha Crowley of Sacramento – Samantha balances her commitments to a weekly volunteer position at Sutter Memorial Hospital with her job duties as the Assistant Head of Food Service at the Bel Air in Rocklin. Samantha is pursuing a career in Nursing and is applying to Sacramento State University’s nursing program.

Congratulations to the $2,000 scholarship recipients:

Devin Hammer of Antioch - Devin attends Los Medanos College in Pittsburg and was sponsored by his mother, Cynthia Hammer, who works as a General Merchandise Head Clerk at the Raley’s in Antioch. Devin is pursuing a career in the medical field and is working toward becoming a nurse.

Lawrence Padaoan of Suisun – A student at Napa Valley College, Lawrence plans to transfer to U.C. Berkeley to earn his Bachelors degree in civil engineering. Lawrence is a Courtesy Clerk at the Raley’s in Suisun.

Jewelene Rezendes of Merced – Enrolled in the registered nursing program at California State University, Fresno, Jewelene looks forward to a career in nursing with her passion for helping others. Jewelene is a Courtesy Clerk the Raley’s in Merced.

Congratulations to the $1,000 scholarship recipients:

Janie Hironaka of Sacramento - Janie has career aspirations of becoming an athletic trainer and attends Sacramento City College, looking to transfer to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Janie’s sponsor, her mother, Joni Hironaka, works at the Bel Air in Gold River.

Jayme Telles of Hollister - Jayme currently attends school at Gavilan College in Gilroy, CA, and eventually wants to transfer to Cal Poly or Sonoma State University to complete her coursework and become an elementary school teacher. Jayme is a Courtesy Clerk at the Nob Hill Foods in Hollister.

Samantha Walz of Placerville - Samantha is currently attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and is working toward becoming an educator, with an interest in teaching math. Samantha is sponsored by her mother, Kimberly Walz, an IT Business Analyst.

Amy Wolfley of Newcastle - Amy balances her classes at Sacramento State University with her duties as a Clerk at the Raley’s in Loomis. She is preparing to become a pediatric nurse.
