From Our Dietitian:
Race For The Cure 2009
Raley's colleagues lead the charge
(Friday May 22, 2009)
Nearly 800 Raley's, Bel Air and Food Source colleagues sported their yellow shirts with the Joyce Raley Teel team at the 13th annual Race for the Cure, held at Cal Expo in Sacramento. As the local presenting sponsor, Raley's had a great show of support with team participation plus wellness activities and samples at a health fair following the race. The Race had over 20,000 participants running, walking and active in support of the cause. Funds raised from the event support local breast health education, breast cancer screening and support services and research. Joyce Raley Teel presented the 2009 Joyce Raley Teel award to Dr. Lisa Guirguis for her dedication to patients, her commitment to breast health education and her contributions to scientific research. Dr. Guirguis has worked at Sutter Medical Center since 2004 and is a certified surgical oncologist with a special interest in breast cancer care and treatment. Joyce Raley Teel addressed the crowd and shared her family's story, saying: "Once again, I am pleased to be here in support of such a worthwhile cause and I applaud all of you, that in spite of the economic hard times, have chosen to come out today to show your support. We all know that we cannot give up the fight to find a cure for breast cancer. Unfortunately, breast cancer flourishes just as much during difficult economic times as it does during any other time. I know because I lost my beloved daughter-in-law, Tina, to breast cancer last fall. The Komen organization is committed to working harder now than ever before and we hope you will continue to support the cause." Thank you to all team participants for your involvement in this year's event! |
