WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (December 28, 2010) – With less than one week left for this year’s Raley’s Food For Families Holiday Bag campaign, local community support has resulted in more than 2.2 million pounds already raised.
“Support for Food For Families grows every year, but we are all surprised at how strong the community response has been this year,” said Ashley Zepernick, spokesperson for Raley’s Family of Fine Stores. “We have already raised nearly one million pounds more than was raised last year and we reached our goal of two million pounds with a week still to go. What makes this so special is that this record response from the community comes at a time when the need is the greatest.”
Food for Families was started 25 years ago as a holiday food drive by Raley’s co-chairman and owner, Joyce Raley Teel, and CEO emeritus, Charles Collings. Today, Raley’s partners with 74 food banks throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada to ensure that donations go directly to local food banks to feed the hungry in the community where they were donated. Raley’s absorbs all administrative fees to ensure that 100% of donations reach families in need.
Through December 31st, customers can continue to donate a bag of groceries containing more than 25 pounds of wholesome, non-perishable food for just $10 when visiting their local Raley’s, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source Stores. For the first time, this year customers can also purchase Food For Families Holiday Bags online at www.raleys.com/order. Additionally, throughout the year, customers can donate to the Food For Families program year-round at collection boxes located at the checkstands.
