WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The 25th year of Raley’s Food For Families Holiday Bag program concluded Friday, Dec. 31, raising more than 2.2 million pounds of food for hungry families throughout Northern California and Nevada.
Surpassing the goal of raising 2 million pounds of food, customers and employees showed great support to their local food banks by purchasing $10 bags of groceries containing 25 pounds of nonperishable food. This season, more than 80,000 bags were purchased and a grand total of 2,272,563 pounds of food was distributed to neighboring food banks.
At a time when food banks are at their greatest need for donations, Raley’s Family of Fine Stores absorbed all administrative fees so that 100% of donations reach families in need. Raley’s Family of Fine Stores is partnered with 74 food banks throughout Northern California and Nevada to ensure donations go directly to feed the hungry in the community where the donation was made.
“We would not be able to feed the hungry in the community without this program,” explained John Healey, President and CEO of California Emergency Foodlink. “The Food For Families donations represent about one-third of the food we receive.”
The program’s success this season can be attributed to continued community support, the added convenience of donating online, and Raley’s partnership with News10 and Sacramento & Co. through the “Make Your Giving Go Further” campaign. News10 was instrumental in bringing awareness to the issue of hunger in our community and providing advocacy for the Food For Families Holiday Bag program.
Because hunger is more than just a seasonal issue, donations to the Food For Families program can be made in any increment year-round at checkstand collection boxes at all Raley’s, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source stores.
