Raley's Reach Offers $50,000 in Grants to Local Schools to Inspire Community Action
Five $10,000 Grants Available for Schools throughout Northern California and Nevada
(Wednesday August 8, 2012)
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Know of any local schools in need of $10,000?
Just in time for the new school year, Raley’s Family of Fine Stores is partnering with Unilever to provide $50,000 in grants to local schools. Through the Raley’s Reach program, the family-owned retailer is once again placing the decision in the hands of the community to determine which schools will receive grants. Through participant nominations and votes, five $10,000 grants will be awarded regionally to K-12 schools to benefit their back-to-school needs.
From August 8th – 20th, local PTAs, booster clubs, parents and community members are encouraged to nominate their local school at www.raleys.com/reach to receive a $10,000 grant. Then, beginning August 22nd, it will be up to the online community to log on and cast their votes for the schools that they would like to see benefit from one of the grants. Winners will be announced on September 5th.
“This is our biggest Raley’s Reach cycle to date and we’re so excited to partner with Unilever to make a difference in our local schools,” said Jennifer Teel-Wolter, Raley’s Community Relations Manager. “This program is about creative thinking, innovative ideas and community support. These grants have the ability to make a huge impact in the lives of children and we can’t wait to see how they’re put into action.”
The five regions are defined by geographic locations served by Raley’s Family of Fine Stores:
Region 1 — Northern Region (Nevada): Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Humboldt and Washoe counties
Region 2 — Foothill Region (California): Butte, Shasta, Siskiyou, Nevada, Sutter and Tehama counties
Region 3 — Greater Sacramento Region (California): Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo counties
Region 4 — Central Valley Region (California): Madera, Merced, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties
Region 5 — Greater Bay Region (California): Alameda, Contra Costa, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Sonoma counties
The top school with the most votes in each region will receive $10,000 to put toward their stated back-to-school need. Whether it’s putting more computers in the classroom, upgrading playground equipment or purchasing art supplies for classrooms — the possibilities for how to put a Raley’s Reach grant into action are endless.
With a long-standing reputation of giving back to the communities it serves, the Raley’s Reach program offers the unique opportunity for grants to go where participants recognize the greatest need. The program was first launched in May 2010 in honor of Raley’s 75th anniversary. To date, Raley’s Reach has awarded more than $100,000 in grants to 20 community projects throughout Northern California and Nevada.
