If you like sweetened tea but don't want all the refined sugar and glucose spikes, consider sweetening your tea with Agave Nectar from Wholesome Sweeteners.

It's no secret that Americans get way too much sugar in their diet. Refined sugars with high fructose levels cause inflammation in the body and contribute to many disease states. It's a healthy practice to try and minimize processed sugars in the diet and to choose more foods that are lower on the glycemic index, to minimize the effect on blood glucose levels.

Agave nectar is a type of sugar that has a very low glycemic index value when compared to other sweeteners like corn syrup. It's about 40 percent sweeter than refined sugar, which means you can use less.

It's interesting that the fructose levels in agave vary and depend on which plant they cultivate from and the amount of processing. Raw agave or low processed agave is best. Amber agave is generally less processed and sweeter than dark agave.

Iced Sweet Tea –  Heat the water to almost boiling, then add Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Blue Agave Nectar (1 tsp. per cup) to the hot water. Stir and allow to steep for at least 5 minutes. Drink hot if you'd like, or add ice and enjoy!

Sweet Tea Variation – Jazz up your tea by adding cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger to get a full flavor effect. Or, add fresh herbs like mint, basil or verbena to the pot or pitcher. It's good for body and soul!
