Raley's Helps Donate Three K-9 Officers
Shows Support of Local Law Enforcement
(Thursday October 11, 2007)

Raley's partnered with Milk-Bone to donate $5,000 to the Modesto Police Department for the purchase of a new K-9 Officer. With the success of this annual program, two other vendors - Iams and Purina - got involved and signed on to donate to local Sheriff's Departments.

To show support of local law enforcement, $5,000 donation checks were awarded to the Modesto Police Department, the Placer County Sheriff's Department and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department at three Raley's stores:

  • Milk-Bone at Raley's in Modesto - Modesto Police Department
  • Iams at Raley's in Granite Bay - Placer County Sheriff's Department
  • Purina at Raley's in Placerville - El Dorado County Sheriff's Department

"We hope to continue this program in the future. We're so glad to demonstrate our sincere support to our neighbors and appreciation for local law enforcement," each Store Director remarked at the check presentation events.

Following the check presentation, the police dogs and their handlers presented a skills demonstration for local elementary school students so they could see the K-9 Officers in action. These police dogs are invaluable to law enforcement. They are called upon to perform many specialized tasks such as building searches, narcotics and bomb detection, apprehending suspects and searching for lost children.

Students from local elementary schools submitted entries to name the new police dogs at each event. The winning names were Maverick (Placer County Sheriff's Department) and Koda (El Dorado County Sheriff's Department). The Modesto Police Department will assign a name soon to their new K-9 Officer.
