Sweet and Spicy Empanadas

Sweet and Spicy Empanadas
1/2 lb. ground beef or pork
1/2 cup diced white onion
1/2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 cup Frontera Roasted Tomato Salsa or Frontera Chipotle Salsa
1/4 cup chopped green olives
1/4 cup chopped raisins
1 tbsp. dark brown sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 (15- oz.) package ready-made pie dough
1 egg, beaten with 2 tbsp. milk

Prep: 30 minutes, Cook: about 30 minutes, Makes: about 30

1. Preheat oven to 400°F and lightly grease a large baking sheet; set aside.

2. Brown meat and onion in oil in a large skillet over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add salsa, olives, raisins, brown sugar and salt; cook for 5 minutes or until thick. Let cool.

3. Unroll pie dough on a lightly floured work surface and roll out to make slightly thinner. Cut into 3-inch circles, rerolling scraps as necessary. Lightly brush the edges of each circle with water. Scoop about 1½ tsp. of filling onto each, fold over and press edges together with the tines of a fork.

4. Place on prepared baking sheet and brush tops with egg mixture. Cook for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
