Baked Ham with Maple and Apple Glaze
Baked Ham with Maple and Apple Glaze
2 cups apple juice
1/2 cup maple syrup (pure syrup is best)
3 sticks cinnamon
1 tbsp. whole cloves
1 bone-in ham

Prep: 10 minutes, Cook: 2 hours, Serves: 12

1. Combine apple juice, syrup, cinnamon and cloves in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Discard cinnamon sticks and cloves.

2. Meanwhile, place ham in a large baking dish, cut side down. Pierce ham with a thin knife over the entire surface, making about 30 slits. Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes; drain and discard fat.

3. Pour apple juice mixture into the pan. Using a bulb baster, baste ham well with mixture. Reduce heat to 325°F; cook for 1-1/2 hours more, basting frequently. (Tent loosely with foil if ham browns too quickly.)

4. Remove from pan and thinly slice. Serve with apple juice mixture.

Tip! The idea is to have the slits open slightly during baking so the glaze flavors the inside of the ham.
