Pecan Pie Yams

Pecan Pie Yams
5 lbs. yams
1/4 cup butter, melted
3/4 cup brown sugar, divided
1-1/2 tsp. cinnamon, divided
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 of a refrigerated pie dough, torn into small pieces
1 cup pecan pieces

A great choice for your sweet yam-loving guests!

Prep: 30 minutes, Cook: 50 minutes, Serves: 12 to 16

1. Preheat oven to 400°F and lightly butter a 13 X 9-inch baking dish. Peel yams and slice 1/2-inch thick. Steam or boil for 20 minutes or until just barely tender; drain well and place in prepared baking dish. (May be prepared a day ahead at this point.)

2. Add butter, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon to yams and toss lightly. To prepare topping, stir together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg and pie dough in a medium bowl with a fork. Mix with your fingers until well blended and crumbly. Add pecans and sprinkle over yams.

3. Bake for 30 minutes or until yams are hot, tenting with foil if topping browns too quickly.

Make-ahead tip: Pecan Pie Topping may be prepared up to 1 week ahead and stored tightly covered in the refrigerator until ready to use.
