Kristen's Candy Cane Cookies

Kristen's Candy Cane Cookies
1/4 cup finely crushed candy canes (or peppermint candies)
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Raley's Egg
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. red food coloring
Prep time: 45 minutes, Cook time: 10 to 12 minutes

Preheat oven to 325ºF. Stir together candy and
in a small bowl; set aside. Cream together butter,
shortening and powdered sugar; mix in egg and
extracts. Stir in flour and salt. Divide dough into 2
equal pieces and blend food coloring into only one
piece. Shape dough into 1/4-by-4-inch ropes.
press together one white and one red rope; twist
together and bend into a candy cane shape. Place
cookies on ungreased baking sheets and bake for
to 12 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with
candy cane mixture.

Makes about 24 cookies.

Tip! This dough is very delicate, so take your time
when making these cookies.
