Holiday Tips From Our Wine Expert

Curtis Mann | Raley’s Wine Expert

A highly credentialed veteran of the California wine industry, Curtis helps our customers discover great wines from all over the world, within any budget. Check out his pairing tips for the holiday season and impress your guests!

Always the Perfect Pair

“Riesling goes with everything. If you are lost on what to bring or pair with your dinner, start there.”

French Subtlety

“Bordeaux or wines from the Rhone are great pairings with roasted or braised meats. Not being fruit forward makes them easier to pair with food because they will not dominate the dish. My favorite holiday tradition is to open a bottle of Bordeaux with dinner and then open a nice Napa or Washington Cabernet with dessert.”

Meat Your Match

“Turkey pairs well with Syrah, Zinfandel or Riesling. Ham pairs well with Rosé, Grenache or Moscato. Prime rib pairs well with Cabernet, Merlot or Barolo. And seafood pairs well with Pinot Gris, Barbera or Chardonnay.”

Save on Sips

“A lot of people don’t know this, but any time of year, you’ll get 30% off mix-and-match 750 mL bottles of wine when you buy 6 or more. So if you know you’ll need a few bottles for the holidays and want to have hostess gifts on hand, too, it’s a great deal when you stock up.”
