Flu Shot Clinics Aim to Keep Customers Healthy

By Amy Johnston | Monday September 29, 2008

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA. – Along with the exciting holiday season comes the inevitable winter weather and the dreaded flu season. To keep customers healthy this fall, Raley’s stores are once again offering flu vaccination clinics.

The scheduled clinics are available October 1 through November 22, with operating hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a few exceptions (please check the online schedule). Appointments are not required.

“The health of our customers and colleagues is very important to us, so to help everyone prepare for flu season, we’re once again offering the convenience of flu shots in their local store’s Pharmacy department,” said Bill Okuno, Director of Pharmacy Administration. “Our customers really appreciate the convenience of being able to get their flu vaccination in their neighborhood without an appointment.”
Flu vaccinations cost $25 in California and $28 in Nevada for the general public. Patients who have Part B Medicare but no HMO insurance are eligible for free flu shots. For customers who meet the requirements, Flu Mist will be available for $38 as an alternative to the shot at select pharmacies. Pneumonia shots are also available for $45.

Each year, the influenza virus attacks millions of people in the United States — about 10% to 20% of U.S. residents. Certain groups are particularly at risk; the elderly, people with diabetes and weakened immune systems, and people with chronic heart, lung and kidney disease.

Flu shots are not recommended for those allergic to eggs or egg products, those who have had an adverse reaction to a flu or pneumonia shot, those with a current active illness and those who are in their first trimester of pregnancy.
