Raley’s and Food For Families participated in major food donation efforts in partnership with the California Grocers Association, the Sacramento River Cats, Tyson Foods, Inc., Lift Up America and others to support the California Emergency Foodlink, one of our primary Food For Families partners.
The week of Dec. 7, California grocers, including Raley’s responded to a food donation request from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver to help with the statewide WE Can Food Drive.
Around 266,000 pounds of food were collected – 120,000 coming from Raley’s and Food For Families alone, the highest donation among grocers. Governor Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver hosted the WE Can Holiday Food Drive to support the California Emergency Foodlink in conjunction with the 78th Annual State Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
From the California Grocers Association: “The outpouring of support from California grocers during this holiday season has been truly remarkable,” said First Lady Maria Shriver. “Arnold and I are incredibly thrilled with the generous donations made to the California Emergency Foodlink. This will positively impact hundreds of thousands of Californians struggling during these incredibly difficult economic times. The grocers have shown that together we can make a difference. I know it will inspire all Californians to generously donate to help those who are without.”
That same week, through Food For Families, Raley’s partnered with Tyson Foods Inc., Lift Up America and the Sacramento River Cats to secure 30,000 pounds of food for families in need in the greater-Sacramento area.
From the Sacramento River Cats: “We are thrilled to partner with Lift Up America, Tyson Foods, Raley’s & Bel Air, and the California Emergency Foodlink on this terrific event,” said Alan Ledford, president, general manager and COO of the River Cats and Raley Field. “At a time when so many families in our community are in need, the River Cats are proud to be able to help.”
