Raley’s Brings History to the Kitchen with Presidential Cookies

Meet Author Bev Young and Take a Taste of United States History
By Amy Johnston | Monday January 28, 2008

WEST SACRAMENTO – Raley’s is baking up a batch of cookies – and American history – in a store near you! In honor of Presidents’ Day, Raley’s is hosting exclusive meet-and-greets throughout February with Bev Young, local author of the national best selling book, Presidential Cookies.

Young’s delectable read is Raley’s Book Of The Month for February. It showcases taste-tested presidential cookie recipes with step-by-step instructions, baking tips, and full-color photographs while highlighting White House anecdotes, historical folklore, and fun facts about treasured American symbols.

This melt-in-your-mouth collection of recipes shares two centuries of entertaining at the White House where cookies have been served at presidential receptions, teas, dinners, and First Family gatherings. Young’s book is only distributed to retail stores and gift shops of presidential libraries, historic sites and museums, but will be on sale exclusively at participating Raley’s, Bel Air Markets and Nob Hill Foods stores for only $23.95.

Presidential Cookies is a sweet read for parents, children, teachers, and cookie lovers and reveals First Family favorites, including:

George and Martha Washington’s Jumbals
Abraham and Mary Lincoln’s Gingerbread Men Cookies
Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s Honey Drops
Ronald and Nancy Reagan’s Vienna Chocolate Bars
Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s Raisin-Oatmeal Cookies
Bill and Hillary Clinton’s Chocolate Chip Cookies
George W. and Laura Bush’s Texas Governor’s Mansion Cowboy Cookies

Young will be available to autograph her book and share some sweet baking tips with customers at local Raley’s and Bel Air Markets. To view a complete list of scheduled store visits, please click here.
