Raley’s Expands Sugar Awareness Campaign to Pasta Sauces

In continued commitment to product transparency, Raley’s enhances shelf tags to call out pasta sauces with more than 25% and less than 5% added sugar

West Sacramento, CA — In a continuous campaign to raise awareness of sugar content throughout their stores, Raley’s has turned their attention to the amount of added sugar in pasta sauce products. The refreshed pasta sauce aisle includes new educational signage and enhanced product tags. These new tags highlight pasta sauces with less than 5% or more than 25% of total calories coming from added sugar. In the pasta sauce category, about two-thirds of the vast selection of “Better for You” brands Raley’s offers have 5% or less calories coming from added sugar. In addition, more than 50 products can receive a special Shelf Guide tag for No Added Sugar.

“Raley’s is helping customers navigate their personal health journeys by continuing to increase transparency around added sugar in different categories throughout our stores,” said Yvette Waters, MS, RDN, CISSN, Raley’s Nutrition Strategist & Brand Influencer. “We know these types of changes to the aisles can help customers make more informed decisions at the shelves and influence purchase choices.”

This is another bold move in Raley’s commitment to educating customers on the impact of sugar on health. Last year, the company launched their sugar awareness campaign by changing the layout and promotion of cold cereal. Given positive results, Raley’s has plans to expand their sugar awareness campaign to other categories in the near future.

For customers committed to avoiding sugar altogether, they can utilize Raley’s recently relaunched one-of-a-kind label transparency tool, Raley’s Shelf Guide. The No Sugar Added icon, just one of 23 icons that can be found on store tags and online, allows customers to identify products completely free of any added sugar when shopping in-store and online.

For customers interested in learning more about added sugar and its effects on personal wellness, Raley’s has created engaging educational content at Raleys.com/addedsugar and on their social media channels.
