Shows Support for the Susan G. Komen Sacramento’s Race for the Cure®
By Amy Johnston | Tuesday May 8, 2007
SACRAMENTO, CA – There will be a noticeable change in uniform for employees at Raley’s stores – all for a great cause. On Friday, May 11, Raley’s store employees who are participating in the Sacramento Race for the Cure will show their support for the fight against breast cancer by wearing their yellow Joyce Raley Teel team shirts to work.
Aiming to heighten breast cancer awareness and promote this annual event, Raley’s is the local presenting sponsor for the 11th consecutive year of the Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure on Saturday, May 12 at Cal Expo from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Although registrations from Raley’s employees continue to pour in, the store on Mack Road has the largest Raley’s team signed up to participate in the race. The Raley’s on Mack Road will even host on-site race registration tables with the Komen Sacramento Affiliate for last-minute sign ups on Friday, May 11, so customers can grocery shop and register for the event all in one quick trip to the store. The annual event consists of a 5K Run/Walk or 1 Mile Walk.
“Raley’s is proud to be involved with this terrific cause and enjoys promoting this annual event to the community,” said Nancy McGagin, Raley’s Manager of Corporate Consumer Affairs. “We are the local presenting sponsor for the 11th consecutive year and encourage our colleagues to join the effort.”
Raley’s each year aims to have the largest corporate team – and often does – bringing hundreds of employees in a sea of yellow team t-shirts. Raley’s owner Joyce Raley Teel leads the team of Raley’s employees, families and friends while serving as the honorary chair of the event. Last year the team had nearly 1,000 participants from Raley’s, Bel Air and Food Source stores.
Just this year, Komen for the Cure granted over $1 million to 24 local breast care programs, reaching a major milestone in their community support and outreach efforts.
