The next generation of farmers contributed to our food economy this Memorial Day weekend! Team members from Raley’s Family of Fine Stores attended the Sacramento County Fair’s Junior Livestock Auction on May 24th in support of local 4-H and Future Farmers of America chapters. Over 600 youth participated by raising and selling livestock and eggs at the event, which is the culmination of an educational work experience that teaches biology, nutrition, accounting, marketing, and personal accountability.
With the average age of farmers in the United States nearing 60, it is vital that young people are encouraged to hone their skills and passion for this industry. In an effort to support the next generation of local farmers, Raley’s purchased $10,000 worth of livestock at the auction, including 10 rabbits, 3 chickens, 10 pigs, 2 turkeys, 4 goats, 2 lambs, and 1 carton of eggs.
