Contains vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and other beneficial substances that may have positive health effects.

Make Your Calories Count!

Nutrient dense foods and beverages are a good source of beneficial nutrients, relative to the number calories per serving. For foods to qualify for Raley’s Nutrient Dense standard they must meet the following requirements:

Category Calorie Limit Added Sugar Limit Sodium Limit
Meals <500 calories <10% of calories <600mg sodium
Snacks <220 calories <15% of calories <250mg sodium
Beverages <140 calories <5g <150mg sodium

In addition to our Raley’s limits on added sugar and sodium, Nutrient Dense foods must contain 10% or more of the daily value for key nutrients like:

  • Protein
  • Fiber
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin D
  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Zinc
  • Folate
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium

And made without the use of nitrates/nitrites, partially hydrogenated oils and trans fats, artificial colors and flavors, and ingredients that are commonly fortified, like added fiber and enriched flour!
