Ponche Navideño (Hot Fruit Punch)
3 quarts water
3 oranges, peel and white pith removed, chopped
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped
1 cup chopped dried apricots
1 cup raisins
1 piloncillo cone (in our Hispanic food aisle) or 1 cup packed brown sugar or more to taste
3 cinnamon sticks
1½ tsp. whole cloves
Brandy or rum (optional)

There is a custom in Mexico to serve this punch to guests during the nine days of Las Posadas. Make it your own by substituting your favorite fruits, dried or fresh. Serve with a spoon – it’s very thick!
