Cherry Chocolate French Toast
Cherry Chocolate French Toast
1 loaf Nob Hill Trading Co. Black Forest Bread (in our Bakery)
3/4 cup fat-free or regular half & half
3 eggs
1/4 cup Kirsch (cherry liqueur)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter
Cherry Topping:
3 cups fresh cherries* pitted
1/3 cup Kirsch
1/3 cup cherry preserves

Prep: 20 minutes, Stand: 20 minutes, Cook: 20 minutes, Serves: 6 to 8

1. Cut bread into 3/4-inch thick slices, cutting larger slices in half.

2. Beat together half & half, eggs, Kirsch and sugar. Pour into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish and add bread, turning to coat. Let stand for 10 minutes, then turn bread and let stand for 10 minutes more.

3. Melt butter in 2 large skillets over medium heat (or cook in 2 batches). Add bread and cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side or until golden brown; keep warm.

4. To prepare topping, heat cherries, Kirsch and preserves in a medium saucepan over low heat for 10 minutes; spoon over French toast.

*May substitute canned or frozen and thawed cherries, if fresh are not available.
