Chocolate Toffee Bars
Chocolate Toffee Bars
1/2 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 egg
1-3/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
1/4 cup Heath English Toffee Bits
10 Werther's Original Hard Candies
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 tsp. shortening

Prep: 30 minutes, Cook: 32 minutes, Makes: 30 small bars

1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper or buttered foil. Stir together butter, sugar, vanilla extract and egg in a large bowl. Add flour and salt to butter mixture and stir lightly. Stir in walnuts and toffee bits until mixture forms a dough, using your hands if necessary.

2. Press into prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes or until cooked through. Let cool, then pull up parchment or foil to lift bars out of the pan. Cut into 30 pieces and separate each slightly.

3. Melt hard candies in a small saucepan over very low heat. Melt chocolate and shortening in a small bowl in a microwave for 1 minute or until fully melted, stirring twice.

4. Drizzle caramel over the top of bars in one direction with a spoon. Drizzle chocolate in the opposite direction with a spoon, or if it’s too thick, spoon into a small reclosable bag and snip a small amount off one end and squeeze to drizzle. Let toppings cool completely, then store bars in an airtight container.
